Doro are renowned for producing big buttoned phones mostly aimed at older people who may find a standard phone difficult to use, but it is interesting to see them introduce this Android phone. The general complexity that comes about because of the wealth of features on the modern smartphone makes this an area that you wouldn't think any manufacturer would touch with a barge pole, so have Doro made a big mistake here or have they pulled it off?

Easy to see, use and hold

The first thing you notice is it doesn't quite look like a real phone. It's a large and chunky looking phone, which makes it easy to grip, and the three custom home buttons are of the raised rubber type, so they are easy to see and feel, though seemed a little difficult to press which might be an issue for a weaker hand. But they will have a more user friendly feel to those who are not particularly au-fait with modern technology.

Bright, clear screen

The screen is lower than average resolution at 400 x 840 but it is bright and clear and is ideal for Doro's remake of the usual Android interface. This now features large, clearly labelled icons in a 3x3 grid which are very clear and simple to understand. A large green tick appears when an action is required, and even though you can still download anything from Google's Play store, Doro have redesigned the Play store interface which again makes this Android smartphone easier to use.

Large fonts

With the inclusion of large fonts there is a definite feel that this is aimed at older people rather than as a first Android phone, though given that smartphones are still a recent invention that's not to say it doesn't hit the spot on both counts. There are still millions of people, young and old, who have never used a smartphone of any kind.

Camera and video recording

A 5 megapixel camera with video recording is included and again Doro have put a lot of thought into the person who is likely to be using it, with clear, simple buttons to operate it. Photo quality is excellent too, far better than we expected, even in low light using the built in flash. Options are basic but the more adventurous can of course still download some of the excellent photo and camera enhancements from Google Play store, many of which are free.

Remote management

The strongest suite of the Doro Liberto 810 is probably it's remote management system, which is a Google based interface from which you can manage the phone. From your computer and using a Google account, you or a member of your family can edit settings, including the home screen icons, and transfer contacts, files and photos which can be set to upload automatically. Again it is very simple to use.

Doro's ICE - In Case of Emergency - feature is present here too, which allows details such as allergies, medication and even blood type to be entered as well as the ability to automatically call preset numbers in an emergency.

Our summary

Even if you are an avid power user it's difficult not to like this smartphone. It's very easy and intuitive to use for both young and old and has an affordable price tag at under £140 on Pay As You Go. Doro have put their expertise in this sector of the market, where the major players have feared to tread, to excellent use and have come up with a great handset that is perfect for it's target market. Once again we are pleased to recommend a very good Doro handset.
