Do you want a mobile phone? I mean, just a mobile phone with no need for all the all-singing, all-dancing megascreen monoliths that are taking over the phone world?

Well there’s good news for you. We have just the thing. Our Nokia C2-01 review will go through what this traditional “old-skool” 3G handset has to offer.

As you can see you get a standard type and text keypad beneath a 2 inch screen, with a 4-way navigation pad, call, end call and menu buttons in between.

Call quality on most Nokia handsets is superb, with fine and clear sound and the Nokia C2-01 is no exception, even through the speakerphone. Texting is a breeze especially for those of you used to using the standard alphanumeric keypad and the large raised keys make life easy and you can also send MMS picture messages. On screen text size can also be increased to your liking.

The phone also comes with a worthy 3.2 megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom, which can also record video at 15 frames per second. the photos and video are of perfectly good quality for a budget handset but the low resolution screen isn’t the best way to display them. However you will have no complaints at the quality of your snaps if you want to print them out or view them on a computer.

You also get a music player and stereo FM radio which you can listen to using any headset via the standard 3.5mm headphone socket, or through cordless headsets or speakers via stereo Bluetooth. All major formats are supported and although Nokia only include 46 megabytes of internal memory you can add a MicroSD card up to 16GB which gives you as much storage as almost any smartphone on today’s market.

Internet access is via 3G as there is no Wi-Fi but it’s not a phone you will buy to primarily browse the internet. It suffices for the occasions you may need it. Nokia include plenty of additional ‘everyday’ apps too such as calendar, alarm clock, calculator etc. and there are thousands more available on Nokia’s Ovi store.

This is a well built good looking handset with excellent build quality and a weight of just 89 grams so it is easy and comfortable to carry, hold and use. As there is no major drain on resources battery life is fantastic – like it used to be for those now using smartphones – with potential talk time of over 9 hours and standby time that will last well over 2 weeks without use. If you are looking for a good quality handset for basic everyday or even just occasional use then the Nokia C2-01 fits the bill perfectly
