HTC One review, ratings and latest UK deals and offers

Is the HTC One the best smartphone ever made? There are many reviewers out there who certainly think so. Opinions are subjective of course but the HTC One is without a doubt up there with the best, including the Sony Xperia Z, Samsung Galaxy S4 and of course the iPhone 5

So beyond all the hype, what does the HTC One have to offer you? Well this stunning android smartphone is built with a metal honed curvaceous casing with angled corners means that you will find it a delight to hold and use.

This extremely well built casing encloses a stunning but sensible 4.7" edge-to-edge toughened glass screen with an incredible Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels which provides you with excellent clarity with pin-sharp text going down to sizes your eyes will probably struggle to keep up with.

Within this beautiful seamless body the HTC One comes packed with every feature you could ever think of.

Both front and rear are aluminium, and the curved edges and rear plate ensure that you will find it extremely comfortable to hold.

Top quality sound

The smartphone is powered by an incredibly fast 1.7 GHz quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM which means you will enjoy super-fast browsing and crystal clear judder-free video.

Thankfully HTC have given us a 2,300 mAh battery which will play your videos continuously for over 8 hours and assures you that in regular use you should have no problem with the battery running out of juice halfway through the day.

You get sound quality to match too with HTC BoomSound, made possible thanks to the dual front-facing speakers with Beats Audio sound processing.

This ensures your listening pleasure is even more enjoyable whether watching movies, listening to your mp3's or the built-in stereo FM radio.

Comprehensive connectivity

Connectivity is as comprehensive as you would expect with NFC, Wi-Fi, Stereo Bluetooth, GPS, 3G and 4G and a USB socket that doubles as a Micro HDMI socket, as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack.

As if that is not enough you also get an infra-red function so you can use it as a remote control device for your TV stereo system or satellite box.

An Electronic Programme Guide is also included and covers most UK services including Freeview and Sky or you can rent or buy movies from HTC's very own store, HTC Watch, straight from your smartphone.

Upgradeable android

The HTC One has now been updated to utilise the latest version of Android v4.4.2 'KitKat', overlaid with HTC's highly acclaimed Sense UI (User Interface) which has been redesigned for the One.

Now using version 5 of Sense UI it is far more responsive than ever before and has a far more professional look and feel about it too.

HTC have also added the superb Blink Feed which shows you live constantly updating RSS feeds, updates from your Facebook and Twitter accounts and latest news - or whatever content you want it to display!

If you prefer the more traditional Android look that's no problem as you can rearrange your tiles, widgets and icons at will as with any Android smartphone but the HTC One actually allows you to choose and set your own home screen if you don't like the Blink Feed app.

Another feature of the Sense 5 UI is Sense Voice which detects ambient background noise and boosts in-call clarity to compensate thanks to the clever use of dual microphones.

HTC's UltraPixel camera also ensures your images will be crisp and bright and the technology captures up to 300% more light.

A one-touch system means you can automatically capture 20 photos and a 3-second video in succession, bringing your pictures to life.

Video Highlights automatically select the best 30 seconds of action to create a stunning montage which you can enhance with your own choice of background music. You can also create dramatic effects with variable speed 1080p HD video.

A full suite of photo editing features are included of course and you will love the Object Removal feature which lets you remove an unwanted feature in a photo, such as a passer-by.

Our summary

There is so much more to the HTC One, such as an array of sensors including an ambient light sensor, proximity detector, gyro sensor and accelerometer.

You also get DLNA for wireless streaming of content to another DLNA-enabled device such as a tablet or smart TV.

This is a superior smartphone in every sense of the word and is worthy of the "Best smartphone 2013" award it has won in countless Best Smartphone contests around the world.

The HTC One comes with built-in flash memory in 32GB and 64gb variants.
